Exercise Plus Aggressive Heart-Risk Treatment Didn't Boost Cognition in Older Adults
Neither aerobic exercise, intensive blood pressure and cholesterol lowering, nor the combination improved cognitive function over two years. This was tested in 513 older adults at risk for dementia. All groups showed slight cognitive improvements, but none stood out from usual care. The results challenge the assumption that stacking these interventions together would produce bigger cognitive benefits.
Key Insight
This trial suggests combining exercise with aggressive heart-risk treatment may not add cognitive benefits.
